From chicken soup for the soul

By Eric Butterworth

A college professor had his sociology class go into the Baltimore slums to get case histories of 200 young boys. They were asked to write an evaluation of each boy's future. In every case the students wrote, "he hasn't got a chance." Twenty- five years later another sociology professor came across the earlier study. He had his students follow up on               the project to see what had happened to these boys. With the exception of 20 boys who had moved away or died, the students learned that 176 of the remaining 180 had achieved more than ordinary success as lawyers, doctors and businessman. The professor was astounded and decided to pursue the matter further. Fortunately, all the men were in the area and he was able to ask each one, "How do you account for your success?"          In each case the reply came with feeling, "There was a teacher!"               The teacher was still alive, so he sought her out and asked the old            but still alert lady what magic formula she had used to pull these boys out of the slums into successful achievement. The teacher's eye sparked and her lips broke into a gentle smile

"It's really very simple," she said.

"I loved those boys."

SYNOPSIS

In DreamWorks Picture' new suspense thriller "Disturbia," the quieter the street, the darker the secrets.Kale (Shia LaBeouf) has a life most teenagers would envy. He spends his days endlessly playing video games, surfing the net, eating junk food and watching cable. He has complete free reign of the house, and a beautiful young

hottie named Ashley (Sarah Roemer) has just moved in next-door.

There's only one problem — he's not allowed to leave the house. Kale's under court-ordered house arrest for three months, and if he takes one step beyond a 100-foot perimeter of the house, his next confinement will be in a real prison. And jail cells don't have video games or cable.

Life hasn't always been like this for him. A year ago, Kale and his mom Carrie-Anne Moss) and dad were a tight-knit, happy family. Then his father was killed in a car accident, for which Kale feels somewhat responsible. The trauma has had long-lasting psychological effects. The once outgoing young man is now shut down and withdrawn.

When an insensitive teacher brings up his father, Kale loses it and

punches him out. Only the intercession of his mother kept him out of jail.

Now he's going stir crazy in his own house while his mother tries to keep things together by working day and night. As the walls start to close in, Kale starts to notice the world outside. With some secondhand surveillance equipment he begins spying on his neighbors, most prominently Ashley, who soon catches on to him. To his surprise however, she becomes interested in his .stakeout hobby

What starts out as a game turns deadly serious when Kale and Ashley begin to suspect that one of their neighbors (David Morse) may be an elusive serial killer. But who's going to believe them? It may just be their overactive imagination. Or they may have stumbled across a secret that might cost them their lives

After all, even killers have to live next-door to someone…

Hi little prince
Since I found you, I've always wanted to talk to you.
So I asked a breeze to give you this letter.
I can understand your feeling when you came here. How
limited and confined you felt while you were spending
your time on the earth.
Every night you look at your star in the sky, and
missed your birth place. But you managed to get back.
You returned to your own planet, to your home, and
finally met your own flower. Right now you are happy
there. You are in peace now, in your original world.
But! How about me…?
Here on the earth. I'm here far away, from my planet,
and departed from my flower.
Every night I dream of my planet. Every moment I think
of my beautiful tiny flower.
Tell me little prince, how can I get back!?
Believe me, I did not come here voluntarily. I was
obliged to come down.
Oh! Gosh! The last moments of leaving my planet…
It was a very sad day. Something quite powerful was
taking me down to the earth.
The more I tried to escape, the less I was successful…
until I descended here. The first things I remember
that I heard were these sentences:
She gave birth to it!
It's a boy!

A definition for kindness

Living here is difficult.

The moments are passing.

 Everything is changing.

I can't tolerate to be far from of you

o, my best origin!

I'm sure you are the most aware to me.

Look at me to see how I'm full of you!

Look at the trees to see how they are full of tear,

full of sadness, because of your remoteness!

Poor the trees to lose their greenness!

Your beautiful look is here now,

as if you are whispering in my ear!

It's the best chance for coming to you!

Perhaps in the dark absurdity of here,

where there is no shine,

where is the absolute cold,

and where you are not in,

 I can understand you,

I can understand a green freshness,

  a definition for kindness!

  Put your comments please!

Color idioms   White color idiom

White in British culture is traditionally associated with purity and innocence.

See if you can work out the meaning of the following white color idioms word for word.

Then check your understanding by reading  examples of how they are used in context.

Finally, check again against  the explanations given.

Go as white as a sheet: become extremely pale in the face

The news must've been bad.

She went as white as a sheet when she read the telegram.

White coffee: coffee with milk (note: not white tea; instead: tea with milk)

Do you want white or black coffee? White please. Well, dark brown,  actually, just a dash of milk.

A white color worker: an office worker (note; blue color= factory  or physical work)

He hopes to get a white-color job, though, with his level of education, he will be lucky to get a blue-color one.

Tell a white lie: telling a lie to avoid making someone upset  It's ok to tell a white lie. It doesn't do any harm and it nearly always does   some good.

Whiter than white: someone who is totally fair and honest.  She is whiter than white-the image of perfection. In her entire life she has never put a foot wrong.

Three practical skills to improve your reading

One underlining; First of all read the material once. Then the reading and underline key words or phrases. They should be around 20 to 30% of the material. You can use two colors for underlining: one for main concepts and the other for statistics and examples. Two: Marginal glossing; before elaborating on this point, its better to define the exact meanings of marginal and glossing. Marginal is called to a white space in your book, and gloss     means key explanations about some points which you have written by yourself. Generally marginal glossing is a note in the margin of your book. This method has three main advantages: at first this save your time, and then you can also think of important questions, which may be given to you later. And third, when you study theses notes stands out and remind you of important points as well. Three: Mapping; by this method you con map the points, perhaps of a chapter into one page, besides you will be more familiar about key points which you have faced before. To make a map you must select major and          minor points of the article, and then arrange them in your map. Treelike designs are the most common form of mapping.
